2021 iMac is the first new iMac design in nine years. It is incredibly fast thanks to its M1 ship. It has amazing 4.5 k retina display and more importantly it looks stunning at least from the back. It has thick chin but the back looks really nice. Now this iMac is only the small 24 inch model. The larger 27 inch model right here hasn’t received any updates in 2021 which puts the iMac in this really weird spot. If you want the new design with a super thin frame you have to go with a smaller model but if you want the performance you have to go with the older design as this is the only one that has a dedicated GPU. Thanks to the fact that apple has now released both the fifth generation of MacBook m1 pro and m1 max chips. We would get an iMac that looks almost identical to the smaller M1 model. Since apple decide to add a notch to the new MacBook pros and the large chin to this new iMac Pro 2022. How the new iMac Pro 2022 would look like?
Let’s start with the ports current 24 inch model isn’t doing too well. It has many chances that the new iMac Pro 2022 would have configuration of ports so three thunderbolt four ports instead of two thumbnail. Three ports one SD card reader which would be mounted on the side. Since we can probably see it isn’t enough space on the current model to have it on the back. The 24 inch model is just too thin and even a slightly thicker iMac would still struggle to fit an SD card then one HDMI 2.0 port a 10 GB Ethernet port and one high impedance headphone jack.
New iMac Pro 2022 is rumored to have the exact same m1 pro and m1 max chips. Just like these new MacBook pros do which means that the new iMac pro would support at least the same port as the MacBook pros. The only extra port that apple will be adding is that 10 gigabyte Ethernet port and that’s because we had it on the 2017 iMac pro. We have it on the mac pro and apple has even added it onto the M1 mac mini. Since this will be a desktop class pro device we are very certain that apple will give us this option. Mostly the same design as the 2021, 24 inch iMac just in space gray larger ends with more ports so i think the big question here is how it would actually perform. Will it have any performance advantages over the M1 pro and M1 max?
Chips themselves are going to be the same as in the MacBook pros so m1 pro and m1 max the only things that would be different would be the cooling system. The power draw so it is a good way to gauge the performance differences between the m1 max MacBook pro. The m1 max iMac Pro 2022 would be to compare the 14-inch against a 16-inch MacBook pro with the same m1 max processor. If we get any benefits from having more thermal headroom on the 16-inch model both of these machines have the m1 max with 32 GPU cores. The 14 inch has 64 gigabytes of ram while the 60 inch has 32 gigabytes. 16 inch is noticeably cooler to the touch whereas the 14 inch is indeed quite warm okay.
Since the iMac Pro 2022 won’t be a portable device apple would not have to limit the power draw anymore so the m1 max could actually use more power than the 40 watt. If we don’t think the performance improvements over the 16 inch model would be the main reason to buy the new iMac pro i think that the main reason to get the iMac pro over something like a MacBook pro
would be that display so this iMac right here has an outstanding display this is a 24 inch 4.5 k retina display it’s crazy sharp but it’s also very bright at 500 nits. MacBook pro has a much better display and that is because of two things one promotion and two mini led.
Leaked features of iMac Pro 2022:
Design:
The forthcoming iMac will be identical to 24-inch iMac and the Pro display XDR. It will highlight black bezels, and really seems identical to the Pro Display XDR, bezel size could be greatly slimmer and it could have a small chin as well.
Display:
As 2021 MacBook Pro designs, the next-generation iMac will choose a mini-LED display for more brilliant colors, deeper blacks, and enhanced HDR, and it will highlight Pro-Motion display technology, with a 120Hz refresh rate. This will make it possible for smoother gameplay and shift through multiple apps. It will improve general animations throughout MacOS.
Some reports have shown that the iMac will have a display that’s larger than 27 inches to mirror the smaller iMac’s increase from 21.5 inches to 24 inches. Display analyst Ross Young states that it’s going to include in at 27 inches like in the current model. Apple has experimented with Face ID for the iMac Pro, but it is not a confirmed feature and it is also unclear that Face ID will be added.
Ports:
The iMac is assumed to offer a related port configuration to the MacBook Pro, including Apple USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, an SD card slot, and an HDMI port. Apple may include an Ethernet port built into the power adapter similar to 24-inch iMac.
M1 Pro/Max Chips:
The iMac Pro may have the same M1 Pro and M1 Max chips that were included in the MacBook Pro, and Apple may introduce one additional higher-end configuration for the device. The M1 Pro and M1 Max may have the identical 10-core CPU. The M1 Pro will have 16 graphics cores, while the M1 Max will have 32 graphics cores.
Pricing:
16GB memory and a 512GB SSD will be the base of iMac Pro 2022, and cost is assumed to start at around $2,000.
iMac Pro 2022 Release Date
The expected release date of the iMac Pro will be in 2022, possibly in the first half of the year. It will substitute the current Intel-based 27-inch iMac with Intel processors.
